Dear colleagues,

It has been close to two years since the battle against Covid-19 began. When it first started, none of us could have predicted that the global aviation industry would be so severely ravaged by this virus.

We have seen the demise of multiple carriers during these trying times and we are very fortunate to have a strong foundation in the company. It was no easy feat, but we have pulled through and are poised to capture the gradual demand for travel and once again deliver our world-renowned excellent service to our passengers.

News would have reached your ears by now of the restoration of the Monthly Variable Component (MVC) till March 2022. With the encouraging news of the upward trend in passenger loads, the introduction of new routes (Copenhagen-Rome) and the increase in flight frequency for selected routes, we are optimistic about what a post-Covid-19 future holds for us.

As a union, this pandemic was completely unprecedented and gave rise to many new concerns and issues from our members. Despite this, our union representatives have worked tirelessly for the betterment of our crew. Sessions with the management, authorities and regulatory bodies were the norm given the fluidity of the situation. We heard many concerns regarding finances due to the lack of flights during the height of the pandemic. Hence, together with the company, SIASU worked to introduce the Voluntary No-Pay Leave (VPNL) scheme. The VNPL scheme allows crew to seek secondary employment and still retain company benefits such as medical without affecting their years of service with the company.

While the past year was not ideal, I would like to commend our crew for exhibiting the qualities that allows us to ride out the volatility and uncertainty faced during these times. Likewise, our SIASU representatives are here to get through this very difficult period with each and every one of you. The welfare of our crew has and always will take precedence regardless. We will do our best to ensure that you receive the necessary support and let us continue to take care of each other as we have always done.

May everyone stay safe and healthy.

Yours sincerely,

Alan Tan
